Loco in Morocco!

Whoaa culture shock! Morocco was hot, dirty, poor and you felt on edge the whole time... But I did enjoy my time there and it make's you appreciate your life and how good you have it... Would I go back? Yes I would love to check out Marrakech and the Sahara desert, but I wouldn't go back to Fez or Tangier where I visited this time... it's a case of been there, done that, tick!

So apologies for the delayed update, due to feeling poorly (see below) but here are some of my highlights from Morocco...

WARNING the following may be a case of too much information...

Got the worst bout of gastro EVER! The epidode lasting a good 12 hours and recovery a good 72! Really I can't tell you how much fun it is trying to take meds to stop the downstairs issue, but the upstairs issue doesn't want to play ball and so it goes on... props to Shelley my personal nurse for looking after me and having to listen in descriptive detail about my bowel movements... lucky she's a dietician so it was just like another day in the office for her... So she said or maybe she was just trying to make me feel better?

On another note when we arrived in Morocco we were warned that we needed to check under the bus for stowaways when we were leaving as apparently kids try to hide... Ok no worries, thinking it was one of those general warnings... Um yeh so it wasn't... on the way to the port in Tangier to catch the ferry back to Spain, our driver checked his mirror and all of a sudden saw a kids head! The others sitting at the back of the bus then looked out the window and saw 4 kids were somehow hanging onto the bus and then some had managed to climb under the bus- crazy!

Trying to get them off was another thing altogether, we would stop the bus, get them off, but as soon as we'd take off again or stop at the lights they would jump back on. After trying a few tactics which almost saw one of us go through the front window and locals throwing rocks at the kids, we arrived at the port finally but discovered we still had one kid who had squeezed himself high up under the axle. Insane! So yes if you ever find yourself in Morocco, in a vehicle, check for stowaways!

Valencia like...

I spent a lazy day in Valencia at the beach, a spectacular dinner on the second night and then a dodgy bar crawl = Lame-o! I'm in like with Valencia, but not love...
but I think it would grow on me...

OMG Carosel Restaurante, Valencia

Had the most divine meal at Carosel Restaurante in Valencia, Spain. After reading the recommendation from my favourite city review source 36 Hours I roped in a few of the girls and off we were in search of Carosel!

The place was adorable and especially the waitress who looked after us who we named Mama Clara... But the food was amazeballs! Unfortunately I only have food pictures on my proper camera so I can't post any yet, but it was spectacular and only 22 Euros for the set menu.

The tapas shared entree we actually thought was the whole meal at first and we were all totally stuffed, but then as Mama Clara was taking away our plates she told us to keep the utensils, and then out comes our mains... and then dessert!

So delicious, the food used a lot of foams and really reinvented the traditional tapas!

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Valencia make sure you make a trip to Carosel Restaurante

Taking time to appreciate the small things..

Like showers that don't sit above the toilet, showers heads that are secured to the wall so you don't have to hold the nozzle the whole time, showers with a shelf for your toiletries, bathrooms with hooks for your clothes, bathrooms with bath mats, bathrooms with hairdryers, rooms with enough room for your belongings... and you, getting the bottom bunk, free wi-fi, adequate and sensibly located power points, lifts and escalators, clean clothes and towels, tea...

To be continued...

Kapadokya or Cappadokya

Is Ahhhmazzing! One of the most beautiful places I've visited, due to it's ancient landscape made up of unique rock formations, underground cities and cave houses, churches and castles... Ahhmazzing!

Went on a hot air balloon for the first time and it was a phenomenal experience! Well worth going over budget for! Kapadokya sees on average 60 balloons take off every morning so the early morning sky is dotted with balloons floating peacefully, which makes for great viewing even on the ground.

Fun fact... Some of the fairy chimneys look like giant...
